SPOTTED AT FORMEX: TOP TRENDS FOR AUTUMN

Join us at Formex, the leading Nordic interior design fair, as we scout out coming trends for autumn.

This year Formex focused on sustainability with forms inspired by nature. Visitors were welcomed by a serene exhibition exploring the idea that all things have an emotional value and that even objects could have a soul, created by trend expert Li Edelkoort.

As a reaction to our high paced everyday life, calming colours and raw materials are predicted to make a huge impact on how we choose to decorate our homes. This trend was definitely one of the most apparent at Formex with brands showcasing wooden furniture pieces, rustic dinnerware and soft, sustainable fabrics all in warm shades of beige, grey, white and brown. Decorating with dried flowers fit right into this trend, dried wheat ear and meadow flowers were popular props spotted everywhere.

If you are a fan of colour, don’t fear! This season isn’t only about the light and airy. True to tradition, autumn presents a rich palette with a new take on popular seasonal colours like orange, brown and yellow. Usually reserved as a spring colour, pinks are coming to play this autumn in a warmer fashion. Mixed with burned shades of yellow and brown this season’s colour scheme creates a cosy yet fashionable atmosphere.

Getting creative is highly encouraged with this trend, mixing different fabrics and materials creates an interesting and personal style with several layers. Placing a brass table next to a velvet sofa adds dimension and catches the eye.

The shapes of the season aren’t only inspired by nature, 70s design is also taking the spotlight with familiar materials and designs reborn with a modern twist. Coloured glass in amber and green were spotted in form of lamp bases, vases and glassware. Rattan is seen more and more, a wooden cabinet with rattan doors could be one of the most popular furniture pieces coming this season and painted black it’s both modern and stylish.
